visiting durango

Durango, Colorado has over 300 days of sunshine, annually!  Tucked away in the southwest corner of Colorado, in the Four Corners region, in the San Juan mountain range.  The summer daytime temps in the 70's/80's, nighttime lows in the 50’s.  And winter daytime temps in the high 30’s, nighttime lows in the 20’s.

It's a small ski town of approximately 18,000 people.  We are a close community of sustainable farms, ranches, and enterprises, including Fort Lewis College.

The surrounding area includes the Weminuche Wilderness Area - 490,000 acres, elevation 8,000 – 14,000 feet and many peaks over 13,000 feet with three towers in the Needles surpassing 14,000 feet.  Close by are Mesa Verde National Park, Four Corners Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, the Anasazi Heritage Museum, Hovenweep, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Park - all within a short drive.

Our office is in the heart Downtown Durango, home to boutiques, restaurants, tourist and gift shops, lounges and other businesses.  Durango's two oldest hotels (in business since the 1880's), The General Palmer and The Strater Hotel, are both at the South end of Main Avenue, a few blocks away from AwareCare, Durango. Main Avenue is visited by thousands of tourists each week, making it one of the most popular shopping and relaxing tourist destination in the Four Corners region.

It is recommended to fly directly into Durango (airport code: DRO).  Flights connect through Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.  If you are flying in and not renting a car, please be aware that both Uber and Lyft are not very readily available at our airport.  I do recommend staying at a hotel with a free airport shuttle.  Please check with your hotel to see if you need reservations for their shuttle.

Once here, I recommend the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. The hotel is on the Animas river, allowing the river chi to help with your healing and reflection.  Another great option is the Holiday Inn Express.  It's brand new, also on the river.  Ask for a river view room.  Both of these hotels are also within walking distance (4 city blocks) from our office.

Or, if you'd like to get out of town and enjoy the country, I recommend the Apple Orchard Inn.

Durango is a beautiful, relaxed, friendly mountain town.

We welcome you year round!
